UICA exhibits work from regional, national and international artists, and hosts  dynamic events including concerts, artist markets, and other special events that build Grand Rapids' creative community. UICA’s movie theater shows independent movies, foreign films, and documentaries six days a week.

Coming Home is a series of exhibitions featuring works by emerging and established Michigan artists. Following SENSE and the international spotlight of ArtPrize, Coming Home will return our focus inward, celebrating Michigan’s role as a platform for inspiration, exploration, and creative development by highlighting a diverse group of working artists. Coinciding with the calendar year’s passing of the seasons, and the broader homecoming of travelers, Coming Home celebrates both departures and reunions.

⟶ About UICA

"As an exhibition, Living with Myself is spirited, thin as air, and uncanny—ready to haunt or strike fancy. Space and time are conjured, but not grounded. Vignettes that are inviting and safe as well as lazy and bored portray the allures and the threats of domesticity. In many cases, the objects feel essential, like they couldn’t be anything besides what they are—their physicality is vital for them hold their position and their essence is what the work is about. There is a sense of balance that is on the verge of being lost as joints are precarious and elements within the pieces are codependent—everything has a place for now."

“As someone new to the Grand Rapids area, the city’s sense of anticipation leading up to the show was hard to ignore and increased as the event drew closer. The event was a gathering of shoppers and supporters from across the state. Connecting with local businesses and watching those relationships grow throughout the year is an added benefit I wasn’t necessarily expecting.” — Susan Hazel Rich

“...a masterful example of genre filmmaking’s ability to transcend its limitations, leaving a viewer not just frighten-ed, but also changed.” —Michael O’Sullivan, The Washington Post
