Gallery admission is free beginning at 5:00 pm in association with Avenue for the Arts' Art.Downtown.

Join UICA for a performance by interdisciplinary artist, Shani Crowe. The interactive session will feature hair braiding with live model and soundscape artist Kiara Lanier, and dialogue with gallery guests.

Shani Crowe is an interdisciplinary artist from Chicago's south side. She received her BFA in film production from Howard University’s John H. Johnson School of Communications in 2011. Her work is centered on cultural coiffure and beauty ritual, as they relate to the diasporic African, and how these practices function as tools to foster connectivity. Her work has been featured in solo shows at Fountain Head Lofts and the Elee.Mosynary Gallery, and group exhibits at Columbia University, Barbara Sizemore Academy, and Sherwin Gallery, all in Chicago, IL.
