"I use traditional printmaking and papermaking techniques to record and restore urban culture, a culture that will disappear. I am interested in exploring the distinct urban culture in different countries or different cities. With the expanding city, the urban culture is on brink of destruction. Through traditional techniques, I am documenting and reviving these tiny sparks of culture, which I believe to be the root and true soul of the city. I am interested in using the basic element of hair; hair is a symbol of memory because hair is filled with DNA information unique to an individual." —Xiaolong Fang
