Mediterranea (Italy/France/USA/Germany/Qatar) is a 2015 film directed and written by Jonas Carpignano. Two men make the dangerous journey from Africa to Italy for a better life, but then face hostility and violence in this shocking look at the life-and-death struggle of refugees. It was screened in the International Critics' Week section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The film stars Koudous Seihon and Alassane Sy as friends who cross the Mediterranean Sea to immigrate to Italy, where they experience unexpected hostility from locals.

This program is free and open to the public and begins at 2:00pm on Sunday, January 14 in the UICA theater.

A panel discussion with a film scholar and history/cultural representative takes place after the film viewing, followed by a reception with complimentary food and beverages reflecting the regional cuisine of the film's origin.
