UICA's Exhibitions Curator
Trekking across the state from the Motor City, Juana Williams comes to UICA from Detroit, MI, where she earned her BA in Art and MA in Art History, both from Wayne State University. As the Exhibitions Curator, Juana spends her days at UICA narrating stories and building connections through curation. She also enjoys reading and traveling, often simultaneously.

SPECTRA is an interdisciplinary group exhibition that seeks to explore ideas around utilizing theories of abstract art through multiple mediums. The exhibition offers a diverse group of artwork that all have foundations in abstract art theories, but dare to defer from traditionally accepted mediums, or provide insight into experimental modes of expression.
SPECTRA is being presented concurrently with Relevant, an exhibition guest-curated by UICA’s Exhibitions Curator Juana Williams. Relevant is presented at the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM). While SPECTRA examines a broad scope of contemporary abstraction and non-representational art, Relevant is made up of abstract paintings from the GRAM collection. Relevant discusses the historical and foundational narrative of abstraction, while SPECTRA focuses on contemporary, experimental, and recently-created works. Relevant and SPECTRA are curated as an exhibition pair, speaking to one another, and filling in the gaps of each other.
