Throughout the year, UICA seeks proposals for works that address contemporary issues and concerns, and/or work that pushes traditional boundaries in its treatment of materials or subject. Exhibitions are planned several months to a year in advance. Please keep this in mind when proposing shows.
The UICA is host to a dynamic experiment investigating the ideas, images and conversation being conveyed by contemporary artists working within the public space. The first volume of The Exit Space Project featured contemporary street/public artists from the Midwest working in an exit space at 2 Fulton West. These installations were then expanded into public spaces on buildings and other sites throughout Grand Rapids.
