Force Majeure (Turist) (Sweden/France/Norway) is a 2014 comedy-drama film directed by Ruben Östlund. A Swedish family vacationing in the French Alps is confronted with a devastating avalanche. In more ways than one, the family’s world is shaken to its core. The title used for the film in some English-speaking countries comes from force majeure, a contractual clause freeing both parties from liability in the event of unexpected disasters.
This program is free and open to the public and begins at 2:00pm on Sunday, January 28 in the UICA theater.
A panel discussion with a film scholar and history/cultural representative takes place after the film viewing, followed by a reception with complimentary food and beverages reflecting the regional cuisine of the film's origin.
